What is essential oils?
There are fragrances extracted from natural sources such as plants, trees, fruits, and flowers. Some can have light, bright smells to deep, heavy smells, which can affect our emotional well-being in many good ways. Essential oils are processed by steam distillation and cold pressing to extract only the oils from their natural substances. But its natural sources yield only a few drops of oil, even with massive amounts.
For instance, it will take 15-20 oranges (or orange peels) to make a few drops of oil.
For 100 drops of oil, it takes 1 lb of Lavender. So some sources take more effort than others, and because they require so much effort, they can be costly too.
What is mental health?
Mental health is our emotional well-being. It is how our brain handles stress and other moods that affect the body. The brain has organs that help the body regulate properly and help cope with life's challenges when things get tough. Part of mental health is staying positive, maintaining your physical health, like getting enough sleep and eating healthy, connecting with others, and having a purpose in life. So all in all, mental health is all about surrounding yourself with good things and showing yourself care when it is necessary.
So how can essential oils contribute to your mental well-being?
Essential oils can contribute to our mental well-being by promoting positive moods, reducing stress and anxiety, and promoting relaxation. The molecules of the essential oils enter the body when inhaled through two primary pathways: The olfactory system (nose-brain connection) and the respiratory system (nose-lungs-bloodstream connection). The aromas from the oil instantly enter the bloodstream, causing our body to respond to its benefits. It's like we connect to nature, and nature connects to us. So when stressed at work or need to rest after reading, you can use essential oils to help you relax.
