Tea Tree Oil also known as Melaleuca Alternifolia, is not only used for medicinal purposes but also used for fragrances and perfumes because of it’s pervasive smell. But besides its fragrant aroma, this oil really is powerful. This plant is antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, and antiprotozoal. Yes this oil is powerful! Where does this plant originally come from?
It naturally comes from New South Wales and Southern Queensland of Australia. The earliest report shows that the Aboringines of South Wales used this plant for much reason. They would inhale the aroma of this plant after crushing the leaves to treat coughs and colds. They would also treat sore throats after soaking the leaves.
An interesting report shows that using Tea Tree Oil for handwashing can be beneficial because it is well known for its infection control. “ A recent handwash study using volunteers showed that either a product containing 5% TTO (Tea Tree Oil) and 10% alcohol or a solution of 5% TTO in water performed significantly better than soft soap, whereas a handwash product containing 5% TTO did not.”
They can also be used for mouthwash, and even as a shampoo! One thing to keep in mind, this oil is not to be ingested or swallowed. It is only for external use. If swallowed, it can cause comas, inability to walk, confusion and unsteadiness. Even using it externally causes irritation or redness for some people so we recommend to express caution when used if you have sensitive skin.
But this tells us something about Tea Tree Oil. It is a gemstone! At least for some that can benefit from this supportive oil, because as we have just explained, it helps with your overall immunity such as minor colds, coughs, wounds, handwashing, and it can also be used for mouthwash or washing your hair! But like most other oils, they are not to be swallowed! All-in-all, its overall properties like many other essential oils give you a sense of relief, protection, and happiness.
